Engine #1
Engine #2
A classic yacht with significant recent investment and major cosmetic upgrades, this Grand Mariner 40 Tri-Cabin is ready for her next chapter.
One of the vessel’s appealing features is her dual-station configuration, with controls at both the lower helm and the elevated command bridge. This arrangement provides flexibility when navigating and allows the captain to choose the preferred vantage point depending on conditions and cruising plans.
The enclosed cabin and command bridge are constructed of fiberglass, complemented by aluminum-inset windows. The command bridge provides an elevated position from which to enjoy the surrounding scenery, while the traditional trawler profile lends the vessel a distinctive, purposeful appearance.
Qu’Appelle is powered by twin 1980 Ford Lehman 2715E inboard diesel engines, each rated at 120 horsepower, for a combined 240 horsepower. The engines are paired with Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmissions, a configuration suited to the traditional cruising character of this vessel.
The twin-engine arrangement offers independent port and starboard propulsion, while the vessel’s two propellers and two rudders complete the conventional twin-screw setup.
The interior offers a traditional cruising layout with a dedicated aft galley. The galley is equipped with a Nova Kool refrigerator/freezer operating on 12-volt and 110-volt power, along with a four-burner Magic Chef stove and oven fueled by propane.
These practical amenities provide the essentials for preparing meals aboard, whether enjoying a quiet weekend at anchor or spending longer periods exploring the coast.
A complete rebuild of the cabin and deck has been completed, as well as new windows.
For added comfort during cooler cruising seasons, Qu’Appelle is equipped with an Eberspächer diesel-fired heater, identified in the survey as being located in the port engine compartment.
The vessel’s fuel system consists of two steel fuel tanks, each with a reported capacity of 125 US gallons, providing a combined stated capacity of 250 US gallons. The fuel system features accessible fuel shutoff valves and flexible fuel lines.
Three bilge pumps: two electric pumps and one manual pump.
Qu’Appelle is equipped with a range of navigation and communication equipment, supporting coastal cruising and time spent exploring unfamiliar waters.
Equipment includes a Garmin GPSMAP 1022xsv GPS and depth sounder, Garmin radar with mast, Standard Horizon Spectrum VHF radio, and a Power and Contessa compass.
Additional onboard equipment includes an antenna, electric and handheld air horns, and a handheld searchlight. A Marine Tec Corp. bilge fume detector is included for additional safety.
For added independence away from shore power, the vessel is equipped with a 4 kW Onan generator, Model 4MDKCB16, with a three-cylinder Kubota engine. The generator is located in the forward engine room, with its exhaust routed overboard and cooling provided by contained fresh water.
A diesel-fired Eberspächer heater provides additional comfort during cooler-weather cruising. The vessel also features an 11-gallon hot water tank, heated by the engine or powered by 110V electricity, adding convenience for extended stays aboard.
A battery bank consisting of two Group 4D batteries, two Group 8D batteries, and one Group 27 battery, secured in covered, acid-proof battery boxes.
The electrical system includes a helm-mounted switchboard, fused circuits, and 110V electrical service.
Anchoring equipment includes a Bruce 33 anchor, approximately 100 feet of 3/8-inch galvanized chain, and 200 feet of 5/8-inch three-strand nylon rode. An Ideal electric windlass is fitted to assist with anchor deployment and retrieval.
A selection of mooring lines, including 5/8-inch double-braided nylon and 3/4-inch three-strand nylon.
Onboard safety equipment includes approved personal flotation devices, throwing rings, a buoyant heaving line, and multiple dry-chemical fire extinguishers.
Combining traditional Grand Mariner styling with twin Lehman diesel power, dual helm stations, navigation electronics, radar, a diesel generator, and practical anchoring equipment, Qu’Appelle offers a compelling foundation for a buyer seeking a classic motor yacht with useful cruising amenities.
