In 2007, Richard dreamed of starting a yacht brokerage based on Trust and Integrity, with a passion to serve people living the fabulous boating lifestyle. In 2008, that dream evolved into reality, starting with Richard and his Sales Assistant, Akiko, in one office.
By God’s grace, Calibre has grown to 5 offices on Coastal BC with 21 staff, including an executive team preparing for future growth. As one would expect, everyone on the Calibre team holds the same values as Richard.

Originally from Southern Ontario, Travis’ life changed for the good when he joined a childhood friend at their family’s yacht club for race night. That sparked a curiosity that took him to the British Virgin Islands, where he was surrounded by stories of solo ocean crossings and round the world races, which then forged his initial curiosity into a lifelong obsession with all-things-water.
Returning home to Canada, Travis immediately headed down to the local yacht club on Sunday mornings to hitch a ride as crew on race days. This in turn brought him to Vancouver Island to start a new life with the ocean on his doorstep. An accomplished sailor, paddler, surfer, and diver, Travis’ passion is for the next adventure in, on, or below the water!
Travis has worked as a trusted and respected member of one of the largest marina organizations in Canada so he has first hand knowledge of the real-world aspects of vessel usage, maintenance, and security that are constantly faced by avid boaters on the West Coast.
He embodies both Trust and Integrity, and lives the Calibre Lifestyle – combining all three elements of Calibre’s core values. Chad Kervin

Chad Kervin is a yacht broker with a lifetime of experience on the water. Growing up in Port Hardy, he spent his early years fishing and exploring Vancouver Island and the mainland in a variety of vessels. His maritime background is hands-on—working as a deckhand on both a gillnetter/troller and a seiner, he gained firsthand knowledge of life at sea. He also worked in the wild fish industry, unloading gillnetters, trollers, seiners, prawn boats, and longliners, as well as refueling a large variety of boats at Esso Marine in Port Hardy. Later, he worked in aquaculture as a technician, operating various boats for daily operations, before moving on to Pacific Coastal Airlines, where he fueled floatplanes.
Beyond his time on the water, Chad brings years of experience in high-value sales transactions, particularly in real estate, where he built a reputation for straight-up service, sharp negotiation skills, and results-driven work. He is also an amateur but accomplished photographer and videographer—both on the ground and in the air with his drone—specializing in capturing high-quality visuals. With expertise in video editing and online marketing, he knows how to showcase a vessel in its best light and maximize its reach to potential buyers.

Brian Latta

Brian is a proud member of the Calibre Yacht Sales team. He was raised on the North Shore, and is intimately familiar with the local waters, marinas, and boat culture of the South Coast.
With over 25 years of sales experience, Brian was drawn to Calibre by both his love of boats and by Calibre Yacht Sales’ solid reputation as a brokerage. Brian firmly believes that integrity and knowledge go hand-in-hand when serving clients, meeting their needs, and exceeding their expectations.
A boat owner his entire life, Brian has spent countless hours on vessels of all types and sizes. He has also worked as a commercial fisherman on the west coast of Vancouver Island and as a sport fishing guide around Vancouver and Howe Sound.
In his spare time, Brian enjoys cruising, fishing and exploring the magnificent West Coast with his wife and son aboard their 35’ Tiara. He’s also an avid skier, hockey player and cook.

Scott is a 6th generation Vancouver Island family descendant. Born in Vancouver and having lived his whole life on the West Coast of British Columbia, being on the water is in his blood. Having fun and coming back to the dock safely after an ocean adventure is the most important part.
When it came time for Scott to look for a great fishing platform to start his own marine charter business, he spent relentless time and energy to find a great boat – only to figure out that if you really want a custom boat, then you should build it yourself. And that is what he did. After two years of construction and a lifetime of frustration, he completed his custom 23ft aluminum charter fishing boat. The Helen June, named after his two grandmothers, is commercial grade and ready to fish. With his life’s dream realized, Scott now wants to focus his attention on finding you the boat of your dreams. With his extensive knowledge of boating and the boating lifestyle, Scott has all of the necessary skills needed to ensure your boat sale or purchase is a smooth and fun one.
His background growing up around the ocean and fishing is complimented by his dedication to marine safety and training. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) Station 37 in Sooke. The best skills and practices to keep people safe and come home with your catch are what I believe in.
Spending most of his life doing various recreational fishing adventures and voyages has helped develop most every day skills needed to be successful however, to be the best requires dedication and specialized training.
Scott has acquired all the necessary Transport Canada certificates that allow him to operate and be insured, as well as being a past member of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue.
Scott’s professional marine background coupled with his desire for safety at sea, is sure to provide clients with a fun and comprehensive experience throughout the sale process.

Frank Berke

Frank Berke is a hands-on West Coast mariner with 40+ years on the water. He has owned and operated vessels from 40’ to 52’ and currently runs a Tiara 3700 Open. With multiple runs to Alaska and decades of practical maintenance and seamanship, Frank knows the difference between a boat that looks good on paper and one that performs in real conditions.
Before joining Calibre Yacht Sales, Frank built and led businesses across North America and the Caribbean. He owned a retail chain in Western Canada for 20 years, managed a Bahamas resort for six, and simultaneously served as project manager for a villa development. For the past 15 years, he and his wife, Wendy, ran a successful real estate practice in Greater Victoria. That mix of operations, marketing, and negotiation translates into disciplined listings, accurate pricing, standout presentation, and smooth closings.
A Transport Canada–licensed captain, Frank is meticulous about the details that matter on surveys, sea trials, and handovers. He keeps deals moving by coordinating clearly with clients, surveyors, insurers, lenders, and yards—and by preparing boats and documents correctly the first time.
Based in Sidney, Frank is a strong community supporter and has used his talent as a licensed auctioneer to raise funds for numerous local charities. Kristine Schenkey

Kristine grew up in Southern Alberta and although she enjoyed her prairie upbringing, she longed to be closer to sand and sea. While vacationing on Vancouver Island, she discovered a love for boating through her father-in-law’s 38′ sailboat and it was then that she and her husband decided they needed to make the move to Nanaimo. Since 2010, Kristine and her family have taken advantage of the Island lifestyle, enjoying beaching, boating, adventuring and hiking with their two dogs, Gus and Eddie. They couldn’t imagine living anywhere else in the world.
Kristine holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and has had a very successful career as a mortgage broker, and more recently, managing a global corporate office. She has been awarded several times for her strong business acumen, sales excellence and creating “Best Practice” processes and initiatives. Her extensive professional experience and qualifications, coupled with her positive and collaborative attitude, make her a valuable addition to the Calibre team.
