Jan Van Gent

Jan Van Gent is a truly exceptional gaff-rigged schooner, unique to the west coast of North America.  Designed by Daniel Bombigher and built by the  Societe  Construction Mechaniques yard in Cherbourg, France, she is designed for blue water sailing anywhere on the globe.  She is one of approximately 45 built and can deliver a good turn of speed from 8 to 12 knots under full sail.
Jan Van Gent (Shpountz model 44-40) is built in the modern cold molded monoblock construction technique incorporating laminated oak frames, strip planked Oregon white pine, with three outer layers of mahogany and west African Iroko. This makes for a strong but relatively light weight structure that is gorgeous to look at and very easy to maintain and and she has been maintained to the highest standards, with all-new teak decking in 2009.  Winter covered, she shows very well.
It is now time for new owners to take her to exciting places. Easily sailed by a crew of just two the long spaced-out sail plan and ship’s systems make her a joy to handle. This vessel comes fully equipped for comfort and performance.
If you are looking for a classic head turner wherever you travel, this is the yacht for you.  The Jan Van Gent would also make a unique charter or liveaboard experience.  Please arrange appointment for showing.
