History of the 1982 C&C 37 Sailboat
The C&C 37, produced by C&C Yachts, a renowned Canadian sailboat manufacturer, was introduced in the early 1980s, with the 1982 model marking the final production year under the direct supervision of co-founder George Cuthbertson. C&C Yachts, formed in 1969 through a collaboration between Belleville Marine Yard, Hinterhoeller Ltd., Bruckmann Manufacturing, and the design firm Cuthbertson & Cassian, gained a reputation for building high-quality, performance-oriented fiberglass sailboats that excelled in both racing and cruising. The C&C 37 is a prime example of their racer-cruiser philosophy, blending sleek design with practical cruising amenities.
The 1982 C&C 37, often referred to as the C&C 37/40 due to its 37-foot length overall (LOA) and 40-foot length on deck with bowsprit, was one of the last models produced before Cuthbertson’s departure from the company in 1982. It was designed to balance performance and comfort, featuring a fine entry, modest beam, deep lead fin keel, and balanced rudder, making it a capable coastal cruiser and competitive racer. The boat’s construction emphasized durability, with a fiberglass hull and balsa-cored deck, a hallmark of C&C’s lightweight yet rigid engineering. The C&C 37 was celebrated for its Canadian build quality and was considered a pinnacle of the company’s cruiser designs during the 1970s and 1980s.
Historically the C&C 37 remains a popular model, with over 100 units built during its production run. Its reputation for quality and performance has ensured that well-maintained examples remain sought after in the used boat market today.

The C&C 37’s elegant teak interior, generous headroom (6’ 3”), and thoughtful layout—including a V-berth, saloon, nav station, galley, and aft quarter berth—provide comfort for extended voyages. Over 200 were built, cementing its status as a classic in the sailing community.
