Manitou

This vessel exudes the charm and elegance of a bygone era!  This is a true opportunity for a generational possession. A thing of beauty is a joy forever!

As a broker I am captivated by the ambience no longer seen on modern boats. If I were in the market right now, I would personally acquire it, enjoy it, and impress family and friends with this most handsome vessel. This is a showboat for the classic wood-boat festival and is patiently waiting for a wood-boat aficionado and collector of fine things to become the new custodian. The current owner is very attached to “Manitou” but recognizes that due to his seniority he now needs to move on to other endeavors. I applaud his recognition of that fact while Manitou is still in such pristine condition.

Yes, she is wood – glorious wood, magnificent wood! Recently the hull was substantially rebuilt by the respected yard of Abernethy & Gaudin Boatbuilders Ltd in Brentwood Bay. Several ribs were sistered, keel-bolts were renewed and fasteners and planking lovingly replaced where necessary. Through hulls are all latest generation synthetic Marelon. No plastic motor-yacht can compete and gleam like this amazing lady!  If loved and maintained, this vessel will still be a desirable and valuable asset in yet another 60 years – unlike the toll of even 30 years on a cheap plastic boat.

Stable when crossing wakes, quiet and sophisticated when underway, and a perfect and spacious home while at anchor sitting quietly in your favourite cove while you sip a glass of wine at sunset. The salon is humungous and spacious for a big crowd, and bright and airy due to the enormous windows and generous port and starboard entryways. The “piece de resistance” is the huge and airy, yet protected upper deck. The Sunbrella removable top on substantial SS frames provides protection from both sun and rain. Visibility for the captain is 360’ all-round perfection. This is the focal point for social gathering and lounging.

The aft deck is great for fishing. SS davits hold the Stryker Hypalon 320 dinghy and 9.9HP four-stroke low hour motor. The transom has a walk-through door to the swim-grid.

The original gas powered engine was removed, new tanks installed and the Cummins diesel purrs like a kitten. Manitou slips along economically at 1,250 RPM doing 7 knots and sips fuel at less than 10 litres an hour. When pushed however she shows an impressive turn of speed at 1,700 RPM (WOT 2,500 RPM) and produces hardly any wake thanks to the slippery hull design by the legendary Monk team.

Electronics, wiring and systems are all recent and surpass the standard installation of most modern boats. The galley is enormous and boasts two fridge/freezers, a large SS sink and great propane stove with oven. A recent generator with only 100hrs in a sound shield produces adequate power when needed. Tankage is generous. Storage is commodious and easily accessible.

This vessel is lying on an assumable and transferable well maintained slip in the lovely and desirable Cowichan Bay.  If luxury of a by-gone era is your thing, don’t hesitate to make an appointment to view Manitou. And it gets even better!!  For serious inquirers a comprehensive professional survey has been conducted to avaoiud any surprises.  Please contact Tony at Calibre Yacht Sales.   You will be so glad you did!
