Selah Vida

Extended hull, custom cockpit, custom sunroom, spiral staircase, rich new furnishings: this classic is something see! She’s the perfect blend of genteel old-world class, amenities, and comfort, nestled inside a hull built to withstand raging seas. You have mid-century modern with soft leather, solid teak sole, and fine fabrics getting along perfectly well with digital chart plotter, instruments, and bow & stern thrusters.

This lady has an exceptional pedigree. In 1972 she was built using cutting-edge techniques to lay up her hull, resulting in a boat that was lighter and stronger than those that came before. In 1997, her 53’ hull was extended to 61’ to include a huge cockpit, perfect for landing marlin or salmon. A Nick Jackson davit has been installed on the transom for the fast and simple launching of a 10’ 8” centre-console RHIB with a 20-horsepower Honda outboard. The aft deck was once open to the elements with an aluminum ladder leading to the flybridge. Now, it has been professionally enclosed with large windows and teak siding, creating a sunroom that is beautifully appointed for dining. A spiral staircase leads to the flybridge, which is completely covered by a new bimini, lee-cloth wrapped railings, and finished with new, quality outdoor furnishings. The upper helm has 3 new captain’s chairs, with newly upholstered port and starboard bench seating. The outer decks are protected with synthetic teak, while real teak adorns the cockpit and railings. Inside, it’s all mahogany, teak, and light.

Imagine yourself with friends and family, sipping something fine, while gliding past the emerald islands of the Salish Sea. Picture yourself hooking on to a big salmon, calling “Fish on!” to the skipper while reeling it in and then landing it in that beautiful cockpit. Then later, serving it fresh from the galley to five of your favourite people in the sunroom.

Now, give me a call and help me make it your reality.

Layout

Main Level

Access the sunroom via a curved staircase from the starboard side of the cockpit. The sunroom contains a dining table with 6 white leather chairs, a buffet/wet bar, and there are doors port and stbd leading outside to the walkways. Centreline, forward, two large teak doors open to the main saloon. Starboard to those doors is a stunning spiral staircase that takes you up to the flybridge.

Stepping into the saloon, you’ll see to your immediate sides that there are built-in twin cabinets, the port one supporting a stereo. Next to port are two white-upholstered bergère armchairs. Between those is a set of 3 nesting tables with a lamp on them. There is a wall-mounted TV discretely tucked away for satellite, internet, and DVD display.  Opposite the chairs, in the middle of the room, is a long, oval coffee table. To starboard is an elegant old-world tufted brown distressed-leather couch. The sunroom and saloon soles are solid teak. The room is surrounded by large windows, with mahogany and teak bulkheads and trim. The headliner is soft white with several pot-lights, and teak trim. The overall feeling of the room is old-world elegance, comfort, and welcome.

Forward of the furniture in the saloon is the inside helm. The open-concept space allows for easy conversation between captain and guests while underway. An elegant and comfortable stool is placed in front of the classic wooden wheel. The control panel is laid out in front of the wheel, with various electrical panels and controls recessed into the bulkheads at the sides and above. To starboard, there is a curved staircase leading to the lower level.

Lower Level

From the saloon staircase, you enter the galley and dinette. The dinette is to starboard. It seats 4 on 2 benches with white upholstery. Large sliding doors conceal shelving against the hull for storage of condiments and such. The full-sized galley has a counter that runs along the port side, with a newly rebuilt fridge Sub Zero midships forward, and the oven midships aft. The stove has two electric elements and a griddle as well as a large oven to handle the holidays. There is a double sink with tall faucet, and a garbage compactor is fitted under the counter. This is a galley where two people could work together while chatting with guests seated at the dinette. There are two large windows port and starboard, the panelling is mahogany. Finally, there are two large hatches in the soundproofed, solid teak sole that accesses the lighted bilge space and the Onan generator.

Forward of the galley is door to the V-berth. This can sleep two, one in each of the bunk beds mounted to starboard. To port is an ensuite, and forward of that is shelving. The ensuite consists of an electric toilet, vanity, and separate shower. There is also a full-sized washer and dryer.

Aft of the galley, midships, two steps down, is a hallway. To port and starboard are the engine rooms, each one can be accessed by two doors in the hall. The rooms are stand-up and sound insulated.

Aft of the port engine room is a guest stateroom. This consists of two single beds with a table between them, reading lights above each, and two opening portholes. There is a tall, spacious hanging locker for storage.

Aft of the port engine room are two heads, conjoined by a shower stall. They are both bright, clean, have electric toilets, opening portholes, and have their own doors. The shower stall also has an opening porthole, as well as a light, a place to sit down, and a hand-shower. The stall can be locked from either side for privacy.

Spanning the aft end of the vessel is the master stateroom. To port is a double bed and to starboard is a single. A bedside table is between them, and reading lamps are mounted for each. Surrounding the room is outset cabinetry, affording a tremendous amount of storage. There is also a full-height, double hanging locker at the foot of the double bed. There are 7 opening portholes surrounding the room. Above is a hatch that opens into the sunroom, flanked by two overhead lights. On the aft wall is a hatch to the cockpit. This is a restful room for reading, watching the TV mounted in the corner, or sleeping.

Flybridge

Access is up the spiral staircase from the sunroom. Open the hatch and emerge into another beautiful living space that can comfortably seat 12. To aft is a stunning outdoor patio sectional upholstered in navy blue with fun, nautical-themed accents, a storage box, coffee table, and propane BBQ. Seat six around this easily. Forward of that, at the outdoor helm, are three new swivelling, white pilot chairs, and two bench seats port and stbd. Centred, is the wheel and console. It is possible to step over the side rails onto a walkway that surrounds the flybridge. This gives you access to the tender crane on the starboard side, as well as to the equipment forward. The view from here is amazing. From the captain’s chair, you have a 360° view.

Outer Decks

The foredeck consists of two levels. There is a large, open dancefloor space at the same level as the inside helm, then there is the next level, clad in synthetic teak, which is a great place to relax in two sturdy, all-weather, foldable Adirondack chairs with nautical blue and white cushions. This is also the working deck with the windlass and forward cleats, chocks, and hawseholes.

Moving aft from the foredeck, on both sides are wide walkways with high teak-topped railings and synthetic teak decking. They terminate at doors leading to either side of the sunroom.

Aft of the sunroom, down a few stairs, is the massive cockpit. This space is the reason for having the hull extended from its original 53 feet to a generous 61 feet. It gives you enough deck room for fishing, crabbing/prawning, sunning, or whatever activity you want. The hatch in the cockpit allows access to storage, 2 extra fuel tanks, and the Fischer Panda generator. There is a gate through the port side, as well as the starboard side of the transom onto the swim grid. Mounted on the transom is a Nick Jackson electric davit from which hangs a centre-console tender with a 20-horse Honda outboard. With the flip of a switch, the davits “kneel” and drop the boat into the water.
