TEASE 4 TWO

Tease 4 Two is a boat that has been carefully maintained by the meticulous owners and upgraded over time.

Catalina has built a solid reputation for honest quality over many decades of boat construction. The pedigree says it all, and no wonder – after all this time, Catalina still builds their vessels with solid fiberglass hulls unlike many of their competitors.

The 320 stands apart from earlier Catalina models because design modifications dramatically improved sailing characteristics, increased living space below decks, as well as improved crew comfort on deck. Tease 4 Two is pleasing to the eye, has a modest overhang at the bow and almost none at the stern, which produces a longer waterline length of 28’. No wonder the 320 performs so much better than earlier models. Increasing crew comfort was an important criterion in the design of 320. The hull tapers outward at a gentler angle at the maximum beam, which is located just aft of station six. The payoff is a comfortable, spacious cockpit that has drawn positive reviews.

The sail plan reconfiguration, which carries roughly the same area as the Catalina 34, and the redesign of the hull, resulting in higher pointing angles and far better balance at the helm..

The salon has comfortable seating for at least four people at a table-mounted on a post that converts to a double berth, and for others on a port settee, the front of which doubles as seating for the navigator. The forepeak is large enough to sleep two big adults comfortably and has storage bins port and starboard, and two drawers. The master stateroom is amazingly spacious, considering this is a 32-footer. Accessed to starboard at the foot of the companionway, it is furnished with a queen-size berth and has standing headroom. How novel is that! Natural light and ventilation are provided by three cockpit portlights.

The engine is located aft of the companionway and is accessed easily through a pop-off box aft of the steps, and also through a removable box in the aft stateroom. Everything is easily accessible all around the engine and shaft. The design of the T-shaped cockpit is appealing to cruisers and dockside loungers alike. High, ergonomically- designed backrests, and good storage capacity is under the seats. There’s comfortable seating for six, and two additional “observation seats” mounted on the stern pulpit. The helmsman’s seat is removable, which allows a section of the stern to be removed to reach the swim platform and ladder. The side decks are uncluttered except for the necessary genoa track, and the mast shrouds are well inboard for easy passage and improved sheeting angles.

The average cruiser will be delighted with Tease 4 Two’s performance, and the serious racer may be quite surprised with her turn of speed. Although the waterline length is considerably shorter, and the sail area to displacement ratio is about the same as the Catalina 34, the Catalina 320 has better boat speed. Tease 4 Two will point to within 40 degrees of the apparent wind, and the wide beam and the low center of gravity of the keel result in a stiff boat. The helm is light and well balanced. Catalina Yachts has endured the ups and downs of the recreational boating market for more than 30 years by giving sailors exactly what they need. Tease 4 Two is just such a vessel… Imagine enjoying a delightful day’s sail at the head of the pack, and then relaxing in the wonderful cockpit with a glass of wine at sunset!
