Accommodations

With offshore cruising at the heart of all Mason 43’s the accommodations are meant to keep you safe and comfortable on offshore passages with comfortable sea berth options and lee cloths. All ports open and there are 4 large dorade vents to provide great ventilation in hot climates.

Coming down the companionway into the main cabin the feeling is one of spaciousness. With almost 7′ of headroom, it feels like a cabin that belongs on a 50+ ft boat.

The aft cabin has plenty of headroom, two separate berths, lockers and drawer storage, you will find it to be a comfortable place to be on passages as well as in port. The original owner commissioned a workshop area complete with a workbench, vise, tool storage and space to keep your tool on hand, in reach and where they belong. No more searching through lockers trying to find the impeller puller.

Forward of the aft cabin is the galley to port and a full-sized navigation table to starboard.

The U-shaped dinette is comfortable and can be converted into a double berth for visiting guests. A pilot berth on the starboard side has a custom, removable centre table which makes the area more user-friendly.

Dickenson Newport bulkhead heater warms up the boat nicely on cold mornings.

Forward is a full head, with a huge separate shower stall with enough headroom for even the tall folks.

There is a large hanging locker across from the head and a large double berth in the bow with plenty of storage and access to the chain locker.

The Build

The Mason 43 has a prestigious heritage. It was the first boat manufactured by Pacific Asian Enterprises of Dana Point California, (now Nordhaven),  at Ta Shin Yacht Building in Taiwan. Ta Shin gained a world-renowned reputation as one of the highest quality builders and the Mason 43 is one of the success stories that helped solidify Ta Shin, and PAE, as world leaders in producing luxury yachts.

Bulletproof is the word to describe the construction of the Mason 43. The solid glass is more than an inch thick at the top of the keel and maintains a half-inch thickness to the gunnel. The lead ballast is encapsulated in the keel providing a hugely strong appendage that can withstand a head-on collision with a coral head or submerged rock without risking actual hull damage or leaks.

The hull-deck joint employs a bedded fibreglass flange with full-length stainless steel straps. The teak toe rail and genoa tracks are through-bolted and the bolts also pass through and are tapped into the stainless steel straps. This makes for an uncommonly strong deck.
