2008 Campion 822 Explorer – (No Luxury Tax)

Boat Description

CALLING ALL OFFSHORE SERIOUS FISHERS.

Serious anglers are familiar with Grady-White or Boston Whaler.  You might not be familiar with the Okanagan built Campion 822 Alaska Cabin.  The hull is made of a high-tech 3D weave fiberglass, which requires less resin than more traditional layups.  This results in a lighter, but stronger hull.  During construction a layer of Kevlar is laminated into the keel of the boats.  Kevlar, which also goes into bulletproof vests, provides strength and stiffness without the weight.  All of the boats are built with an integrated fiberglass stringer system.

The 822 Alaska is a high-speed, complete oceangoing, sportfishing machine providing a fantastic ride protected from the elements.

ON DECK

The self-bailing cockpit is accessed through a transom gate.  The cockpit itself is deep and uncluttered, with steps forward, port and starboard leading up to the side-decks. The side-decks have beefy stainless steel side rails and a heavy handrail fixed  to the hardtop make moving to the foredeck safe and easy. All walking surfaces on the exterior are molded with non-skid coating.  The cockpit has a seat for two that folds up when fighting your fish.  Rocket launchers on the roof hold 6 rods. Reinforced downrigger mounting pads are set into the coaming and all wiring neatly tucked away.

BELOWDECKS

The cabin on the 822 is open, spacious and compete with a stainless sink, a 12-volt refrigerator and a butane stove.  A forward V-shaped dinette converts into a berth at night with a queen-sized mid-cabin berth providing a comfortable sleep for 4 people.  The stand-up head/shower contains a stainless sink and a vanity top that matches the countertops in the main cabin.  The cabin boasts plenty of storage, and the selection of paneling, colour and fabric brings a fresh, modern look to the sportfishing boat.  Campion is famous for maximizing the use of space.

POWER

This version of the 822 is fitted with a 494-cubic-inch (8.1 litre, electronically controlled V-8 spinning Volvo Aquamatic Duoprop sterndrive.  This units two counter-rotating props on a single shaft eliminate torque steering and improve tracking.  This is the 420 hp 8.1GXi  top of the line model.

UNDER WAY

The 822 complete with Sport Cabin and Alaska bulkhead fully loaded with four people can easily top out at 47 knots or more than 55 mph.  The visibility from the starboard-positioned helm is excellent, even looking aft though the all glass Alaska bulkhead.  Handling is one of trademarks of the 822.  At high speed the boat tracks steadily.  The Cabin model muffles the sound providing a smooth quite ride.
