Aldebaran

The Catalina 30 is a classic sloop of 30’, perfect for coastal sailing and cruising. Aldebaran is a series one boat, a design which has stood the test of time and has been copied by other manufacturers. It’s easy to handle, performs well in conditions offered by the inland waters of south coast BC. She is a tall mast version which includes a bowsprit, that provides a large amount of sail area. With three sails, main, headsail a 150% genoa, and spinnaker, there is plenty of versatility and choice for the sailor.

Three conscientious owners dating back to 1999 have kept Aldebaran in top condition, as evidenced by a maintenance logbook stowed on board. This provides a level of comfort that the boat can be transferred to a new owner with confidence.

Many options have been added to Aldebaran since manufacture. All lines lead to the cockpit allowing single-handed sailing, including a furling headsail, traditional hoisted main and a traditional spinnaker with spinnaker pole setup, lazy jacks, telescoping whisker pole, two large 2-speed Barlow winches. A 2- cylinder diesel Yanmar 2GM20 engine (1300 hours) dating to 1999 with a dripless shaft seal. The dingy can be towed, or stowed onboard between the mast and anchor locker. The dodger, main sail cover and headsail were replaced in 2019 all in forest green sun brella fabric. The bottom paint was inspected and power washed in July 2022. Edson pedestal steering has replaced the original tiller, mounted with engine control gauges, a single lever shifter/throttle. A full complement of Raymarine navigation equipment; autopilot, GPS, wind speed/direction, water speed, depth, digital compass. Other additions; the salon settee cushions were replaced, force10 cabin heater, stainless steel Seaward 2-burner stove and oven (both connected to a 11lb tank in a safety box with solenoid), pressurized fresh water with 160L storage, refrigerated food storage, head recently rebuilt with 160L storage for pump-out or use with macerator pump.

This boat is perfect for weekending and extended trips of up to 10 days without resupply of water, diesel, propane food, electricity. A solar panel provides 45W and the engine alternator provides 55- amps power to the 2-battery house bank of batteries. A new 30-amp ProNautic battery charger quickly restores power to the house and engine batteries when connected to shore power. The 10’-10” beam provides a comfortable cabin that is the envy of many from larger boats who have come aboard. Baking in the oven with the heater on, or outdoors on the cockpit with custom cushions is very enjoyable. The boat is outfitted with a V-berth, the quarter berth, captain’s berth (all with cushions), and sitting for five at the table.
