Reliance

The robust and purposeful Halmatic 50 is now offered at an amazing new price and located in the best cruising areas on the planet (the Pacific Northwest).

RELIANCE is an amazing safe vessel with a focus on ease of operation. This vessel can be easily handled which makes the learning curve quick and gets you out sooner to enjoy this incredible coastline. The refit was designed in England and she comes with a surprisingly comforting interior space, which is so important while cruising. You got to get on board to understand what was done to her.

RELIANCE at 50 feet and 50 tons is a true “little ship” with legendary sea keeping capability attested to by her sisters who fish offshore in the Western Approaches waters of the UK 12 months of the year.

As now configured, her wide side decks provide ease of line handling, coupled with twin 36″ Dia propellers, a large rudder and bow thruster provide excellent maneuverability and control so important for a non-crewed vessel.

RELIANCE was purchased in 2003 from the University of London’s marine laboratory division which operated her off the coast of Scotland.  The new owner, experienced both as a licensed commercial deck officer and yachtsman, was seeking a “Little Ship” and having inspected many potential vessels he selected RELIANCE as offering the best fit for conversion to pleasure cruising to satisfy the objective of safety and reliability when cruising wilderness waters.

The opportunity to satisfy an extensive specification of experience-based preferences in respect of performance, reliability and ease of maintenance was realized consequent to a total gutting, replacement of all systems and equipment coupled with a complete interior refit resulting in a virtually new vessel excepting the hull and running gear which had been built originally to a commercial vessel specification and standard.

The twin Daewoo diesels were installed in 2002 just before she was purchased when a substantial portion of the Scottish fishing fleet was shifting over from Gardners.   It is of interest that coincidentally the same engines are used throughout the BC timber industry.

A refit team was established comprised of naval architect, specialized yards, and skilled craftsmen.   A new aluminum super structure was added and the existing spaces totally gutted and reconfigured.  Both totally new electric and plumbing systems and components were installed with emphasis on ease of access for maintenance.

With respect to above deck maintenance, excepting a minimum of brightwork accents, the primary tool is a pressure washer.

Reliance has been upgraded into an amazing vessel which opens the doors to embark on longer journeys. A perfect design for exploring this gorgeous coastline. If you’re happiest living on the water, dreaming of exploration in comfort, RELIANCE is for you!

Superstructure, Deck and Hull

The GRP hull was completely gutted and all systems were removed and replaced with new.  The fact that this hull has been thoroughly dried out at the beginning of this project and protected with a solvent free epoxy paint system makes it as good as a new hull and possibly better if you consider the exceptionally heavy scantlings that have been used for the laminate schedule. Continuing on with a with the refit to meet the requirements of this upgrade a new Aluminum Superstructure, bridge wings, cap rail, forward rail and boat deck rail were installed.  All the windows were removed and replaced with new.  The Hull, Deck and Superstructure were completely thermo insulated down to the water line.  Awlgrip paint used on the external casings and topsides sprayed with Jotun matt finish.
