Sockeye

Sockeye, a Tollycraft 48 was designed by Washington based, Ed Monk Jr. for year-round cruising in the Pacific Northwest.  The highly desirable aft cabin layout, raised flybridge and large saloon will take you from Tacoma to Anchorage in style and comfort. Consider that ‘Tolly’ Tollefson himself, founder of Tollycraft Yachts, chose the 48 for his personal boat and you can understand why this classic motoryacht is one of the most sought-after cruisers in the Pacific Northwest. Strength, quality craftsmanship and comfort are the hallmarks of Tollycraft Yachts and the 48 might just be the perfect blend of features for cruising in our waters.  The recent survey from 2019 rates the overall condition of the vessel as very good.

Sockeye has full walk-around side decks with high bulwarks and rails, for safe movement fore and aft. Sliding side doors to port and starboard provide instant access to the salon and interior helm station which is ideal for docking when single handed. The large aft cockpit has plenty of room for fishing, visiting or reading, The extensive swim platform makes boarding very convenient through the transom door and provides ready access to and from the water. The fully enclosed flybridge offers a commanding 360-degree view, full instrumentation and plenty of room for guests on the large L-shaped seating area. The aft sun deck, just below the flybridge has a chest freezer as well as plenty of space for additional seating, entertaining guests, or additional storage for toys. You can access the salon directly through the starboard companionway. Inside is a large salon with an L-shaped couch perfect for lounging and entertaining family and friends. The large forward and side windows offer an unobstructed view and provides plenty of natural light. There is a breakfast bar to port that adjoins the boat’s galley and to starboard is the interior helm station. The fully appointed U-shaped galley is located a few steps down so that it does not impede the view. Large fridge and freezer, propane stove and oven, microwave and dual stainless-steel sink is made for producing gourmet meals afloat.  A dinette is opposite the galley where food can be delivered easily and is a very cozy place to enjoy a warm bowl of soup.

Forward is a guest stateroom that can be a large V-berth or two single berths. There is plenty of storage and a separate head for guest to use. To the rear of the salon is the almost-full-beam owners stateroom, It is spacious enough to offer a walk-around queen-size bed, nightstands, hanging lockers and abundant storage. There is an en suite head with separate shower enclosure.

Superstructure, Deck and Hull

The Tollycraft 48 hull is constructed of solid fibreglass laminate and the decks are sandwich construction with fibreglass outer layers and a Divinycell core. The vessel was built in two sections, hull, section and deck. The upper section is laminated and bolted to the hull flange ( shoebox construction ) which is then covered with a teak cap. Inner GRP and marine plywood bulkheads provide internal stiffeners. Full length stringers are GRP Divinycell/mahogany core and considered substantial for a vessel of this size. All joints are well “tabbed” to the hull for extra stiffening as required. This vessel is built to a high standard and considered “over built” for pleasure cruisers.

  • 2020 survey showed some signs of osmosis with a few blisters present. Blisters were not soft and survey indicated repair was not necessary at this time.
  • New canvas fully encloses the fly bridge as well as provides privacy on the sun deck.
  • Robust power davits for raising and lowering the tender
  • Large swim grid with re-boarding ladder makes access from the water easy

Engines

The main engine room is clean, well organized with lots of room for easy maintenance. Twin Supercharged Detroit Diesels 6-71 are considered one of the most ubiquitous marine diesel engines globally, so parts and service are easy to come by. Owner is leaving a fell set of tools as well as spare parts including 2 alternators, spare propellers, water pumps, impellers and miscellaneous hoses.
