"We recently closed on the purchase of a 1992 Waterline 45 named Kaien using the service of Richard Evans. We have been sailors and boat owners for many years (Catalina 320, Westsail 29, Baba 30, Hans Christian 38) and we were interested in finding an ocean capable yacht for extended offshore cruising.
Starting our relationship from California through the internet, Richard convinced us to make the trip to Coal Harbor, Vancouver, BC to have a look at a boat that he thought would meet our needs. During the process, Richard made as much information available to us as he could so that we could make and informed decision. An informed decision in this case involved not just the performance characteristics of the boat, her condition and her past use, but also the not insubstantial financial aspects of the transaction.
He made it a point to point out any know deficiencies in advance so that expectations were not too far apart from reality. Knowing that we were from out of town, Richard introduced us to a number of people locally who assisted us in getting the sale closed – surveyors, marina operators, among others and provide us with invaluable contacts with people who knew about Kaien’s systems and operation. Linda and I thank our lucky stars for the day we met Richard. We are lifelong boaters who have spent the last five years sailing our 43 foot ketch to the South Pacific. We have long thought, however, that a displacement trawler was the perfect ‘next boat’ for us, as our future plans include living aboard and cruising the BC coast. Our search on the internet soon led us to Richard’s office at Mosquito Creek Marina. The ‘Rory Mor’, our new (to us) PT 38 trawler is exactly what we have been looking for. From our first meeting with Richard we developed an instant rapport. His relaxed, professional approach came as a breath of fresh air. Richard guided us through each step, recommending both mechanical and marine surveyors that we have been very pleased with. When the survey revealed some needed repairs, Richard negotiated successfully with the vendor on our behalf, and the final sale terms we were all satisfied with.
